KCA University (Kenya) is partnering with the University of Nottingham (UK) and the Youth Enterprise Development Fund (YEDF, Kenya) on a project titled: Co-Production for Youth Entrepreneurship in Kenya. The project goal was informed by the disconnect and the low transition by youth from theory (entrepreneurship learning) to entrepreneurship practice. Kenyan Universities are not properly engaged in the overall entrepreneurship ecosystem, leaving the youth stranded after completing their undergraduate studies. University faculties are failing to provide a proper transition to students from what is taught in class to application in the world of entrepreneurship.
This project aims at covering that gap between what is taught in class and the practical entrepreneurship practice. To achieve this, the KCA University, Youth Enterprise Development Fund, Nottingham University partnership aims to:
The project has been divided into phases. Phase one involved Research that was done in four counties namely; Nairobi, Bungoma, Garissa and Makueni Counties. The research was conducted at the selected Youth Enterprise Fund Offices in the four counties. A dissemination workshop for the Research done was held on 10th December 2021 at the Kenya School of Curriculum Development (KICD).
One of the project aim is to implementing a Youth Entrepreneurship Hub in the form of a web application that will be the hub of information and support for youth entrepreneurship in Kenya through a creative participatory process that involves KCA University students. The hub intends to:
During the implementation process of the YERH web application, KCA University students were invited to a Hackathon where five groups competed in designing of the web application.
